Soul Owning

Animals can capture our love intensely when we're not watching. My four year old cat, Sambuca, came into my life with a defective heart, although I didn't know it at the time. By the time her restrictive cardiomyopathy was advanced enough to throw her into salivating convulsions, there was nothing much I could do, although I tried. Three weeks back and forth to the hospital, several thousand dollars that I couldn't afford later, I had to put her to sleep. My first time in control of the life and death of something other than me. Between those horrible hospital trips, my hands not knowing what to do with themselves, I painted this. There are dark things within us that terrify the rest of the world, and all too often, make us hate ourselves. There are those, though, who learn to capture their demons and make them work for, rather then against them. Thus, the demons become the source of inner strength.
