I love autumn in New England: the color at peak season, the old stone walls, and the afternoon light filtering through the stained-glass-hued leaves. This graceful woman transforms autumn to winter while leaves scatter from her lacy parasol. Fans of this painting often comment that she looks like Mary Poppins, but I think that’s just the Victorian dress talking!
Summer to her left, winter to her right, she shifts the season with a simple stroll. A crisp breeze releases autumn leaves, ushering in the ice and snow.
