This is a print of a little girl walking down the road of adolescence and the metaphorical challenges that lie in wait.

Four to Twelve

11×14″ print available here.

Dorothy, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks – all are the same archetypal little girl on the cusp of adolescence, and the road to adulthood is riddled with dangerous self-discovery. This painting is based on a recurring nightmare I had from age four to age twelve. When I began sketching this painting, the dreams stopped.

There are variations of my Quoilyns here – those eyeless, grinning creatures who show up in several of my paintings. Quoilyns are embodiments of greed, avarice and lust, and they delight in all three.
