Suicide Tree

Original painting available, watercolor & ink on paper, 13×17″ framed, $1200

11×14″ print available here.

In Dante’s Inferno are the souls of suicides who landed in Hell for their final misdeed. As trees, these unfortunates can do no more mischief to their flesh. This painting is actually two images: there’s the rope around the neck, the hands up high above the head, the twisted torso and legs, the face with its two eyes in the negative space above the rope.
